You’re getting on my tits

The standard of editorial efficiency at Zimbabwe’s publishing and broadcasting houses is, for lack of a better word, shit.

Spelling mistakes, unbelievable grammar and the cookiest pronunciation this side of Nepal are rampant, as I’m sure most of y’all know. I know it’s easy for me, a so-called ‘citizen journalist’ who panders to the editorial whims of his own conscience/blood-alcohol-level/incompetence, to judge these publications, but this just has to stop.

See, every newsroom has sub-editors and so forth, people whose JOB it is to check for such mundane rubbish as grammar and spelling. More often than not, a few glaring mistakes slip through the cracks and I can’t help but notice.

All you have to do is open the online edition of the Herald and Sunday Mail, and I could have a field day subbing their copy and finding mistakes. But I’ll take it one step further. I’ll check, and will publish any mistakes you find as well, errors in the more “professional” Zimbabwean publications: The Standard, Independent and Zimbabwean.

E.g. yesterday’s Standard talks of Joseph Chinotimba “spotting what looked like a designer suit”.

But seriously.

  1. The only paper like that here is the Star (occasionally) otherwise they are really pros

  2. Read the Citzen and Sowetoan and you will change your statement – nothing beats rustygate.org

  3. am loving the new look.

as for editorials, people like new zimbabwe are notorious for that. the other day, they talked of caps ‘choking up another victory’ as in chalking up another victory. I actually sent an email to the guy who wrote the article coz i was that appalled. honestly people please
