38 days and eleven hours later…
…I had a couple of beers.
I know it’s no excuse, but it has been a rough couple of days. Over the 5 weeks I’ve been sober, I have been though Test rugby, drinks with mates, late lunch meetings, work-related stress and a really rocking party.
But as anyone in Zimbabwe right now knows, everything has a breaking point and I found mine; I blame Bon Marche.
I went shopping for food today, but the bare shelves and painfully deserted butchery and bakery sections had me running for the door in a minute flat. That, and seeing a pregnant woman pushed and shoved in a mad grab for the few remaining packets of Colcom polony.
If that don’t drive anyone to drink, nothing will.
It’s been an interesting journey, and I’ve learnt a few lessons along the way. If anything, I know my consumption will definitely drop, and I’ll never buy a box of smokes again, that’s for sure.
To those who’ve been behind me, thanks for your support – I’m pretty chuffed with myself, and I’m really glad the pressure’s off. So I didn’t make 40…no biggie, 38’s enough for me.
Right, so tomorrow is…Friday?
Well done anyway, I’m sure you’re glad its finally over.
I second that. Hey, you just made the half price sales. 🙂
Question: Did you really have only a couple of beers? As in just two?
