Hellfire!
So the missus took me to the Mango Groove show at Old Georgians on Friday night, and we had one heck of a time!
The place was packed and the booze was flowing, with a rum and coke going at a princely $2, so I was fecking at it like a sailor on shore leave.
Tourettes opened, and they were surprisingly good, and their (pregnant) lead singer is pretty cute, but nothing could beat the dynamo that is Mango Groove in full flow.
Claire Johnston may be getting on, but she’s still a whirlwind of fire and energy, and I’ll be honest, I’ve never seen anything like it.
When they played “Special Star” it was probably one of the happiest moments of my adult life, and it’s been a while since ANY music made me feel so good.
And I’ve never seen so many white people in my life.
They closed their show with a song from their new album.
The song is called “Harare”.
Cue pandemonium.
Live music is one the greatest pleasures in life.
white people in Zim? 🙂
Thousands upon thousands of them, bra.
Awesomest!!!
Ummmm…who are Mango Groove?
Glad you and the missus had an exceptional time…Joe Black in love, i need to see this! I will be taking footage in December 🙂
Who are Mango Groove? Vim, are you out of your good goddamn mind? And you live in South Africa!?!?
Ask the closest sasco who Mango Groove are, and tell them they just played in Harare. Really.
See you in December, then.
@Vimbai
JB just acts all hard ‘n’ shit but he can fall in love like the rest of us thugs; just takes the right woman 🙂
*brownie points, heard MM got a fine sista*
Yes there were whites galore. One of them said if Mugabee (sic) wanted to get rid of us whites he just needs to drop a bomb here. I thought a biological weapon with an airborne delivery system would be more suitable. Then you would also need to poison all the beer in Kariba.
Anyway had free ticket – popped in. Thought the sound system was very crap, felt the breeze (cold in October – el nino; el nina?) from the vlei near OG’s, thought the music was very average and the band averager. Penny whistle was great.

to lighten up your Tuesday morning
Sound system was alright actually, although HK would have been better (obviously). Yeah it got quite chilly near the end, and the band was AWESOME.
Had gotten used to shoddy live sound coz growing up in Chegaz, Choppa live kuTavern on black giant PA was as good as it got; then got my hip-hop socks blown the fuck off at Jigga’s do in Durbs …
Well, anything at the HIFA main stage … HK Audio baby.
the sound was poor. u were near front – yes?
Well you can’t really tell from the photo but yeah, I was close to the front.

O’hagans. see you there. how about a new blog post.
JB’s been off the ball since this ‘M’-word business. Like some Blue Bulls player who plays on the left wing and may or may not be Bryan Habana.
Ouch. Just that there’s a lot of IRL stuff going on, and none of it blogworthy! Bryan Hapana!
Special Star, gotta love it! Gotta love it indeed
hehe, young Bryan just made me eat my words!
